RV July 13 & 14, 2026

A little history

July 14th became the national holiday in 1880, under the Third Republic, in tribute to two significant events: the storming of the Bastille on July 14th 1789 and the Fête de la Fédération on July 14th 1790.

It was in May 1880 that a Parisian deputy, Benjamin Raspail, proposed a bill to institute this date as an annual celebration. Following its passage through Parliament, the law was promulgated on July 6, 1880, just before the first edition of the festival. The day was declared a public holiday, to ensure uniformity of celebration across the country, culminating in a military parade and popular festivities.
