  • Built by Hugues Doubleau, a Vendômois lord who gave his name to the town, this powerful fortress built of stone, flint and roussard (iron-rich sandstone traditionally used in building in the region) overlooked by its enormous 33-metre keep, was the largest fortress in the Perche Vendômois region.
