Churches with frescos

We have selected surprising and marvelous treasures that you will certainly enjoy discovering. Let’s take a moment for an art history lesson about frescos and their technique so that you can appreciate their beauty…

Twenty churches to visit

  • The miraculous catch of fishes to be discovered in the capitular room of the Trinity Abbey in Vendôme.
  • Christ in majesty in the Saint Gilles chapel in Montoire-sur-le-Loir (see the full-scale reconstitution at the Cité de I’Architecture in Paris).
  • Saint-Genest church in Lavardin, one of the “most beautiful villages of France”.
  • Saint-Jacques-des-Guérets church at the foot of the little troglodytic town of Trôo.
  • Areines church with 12th century frescos.
  • Saint-Calais church in Meslay with 20th century Byzantine-style paintings.

Along this circuit, all together there are about twenty churches that can be visited every day from Easter to All Saints’ Day.

If a church happens to be locked, a panel tells you where you can get the key.

Inside, you will find free brochures with explanations about the paintings and the architecture.
